Text of the exhibition event:

Čiurlionis and Chips Vol. 5: embeddings

Ideas Block founders Roberto Becerra and Liucija Dervinytė arrive at Žiogeliai for an art residency, where they will create a multidisciplinary exhibition responding to the legacy of M.K. Čiurlionis. Merging text, visual and sound art, their works will move across various spaces, inviting the audience into a dialogue between nature, culture, information, perception and time.

Čiurlionis work often positioned nature as a sacred force: mythic, vast, spiritual, and symbolically charged. Liucija Dervinytė continues exploring nature, as a dynamic field of interconnectedness, where human culture is not separate but embedded. Her work raises questions around ecological responsibility and the entangled relationships that define the Anthropocene. These reflections manifest in painting, collage, textile, and video art. Through a collective embroidery session, she invites visitors to reflect together on the links between nature and culture.

Roberto Becerra approaches these questions through sound, its informational properties, material presence, and its capacity to shape perception. He explores the speculative idea that sound carries remnants of events and informational updates on its patterns. Shaping the realities we perceive. This sound installation explores the sonic as information.

Liucija Dervinytė (born in Lithuania) focuses on interdisciplinary art practices and curation, surrounding topics on the boundary between culture and nature, and the human condition framed by it. Roberto Becerra (born in Mexico), currently teaches at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, he specializes in electronic music, sound art and spatial sound. In 2017, the artist duo founded “Ideas Block” (NGO Idėjų blokas LT), a non-profit organization in Vilnius promoting interdisciplinary art, cultural content, and education. In 2022, they opened the independent culture space “Kompresorinė,” located in the former compressors room of the Physics Institute. Functioning as a gallery, events venue, and co-working space it hosted exhibitions, concerts, workshops, and other cultural events. For a brief moment, this space energized Vilnius’ alternative art scene, but in 2024, “Ideas Block – Kompresorinė” had to close due to the expansion of the Ministry Quarter project in Vilnius. Through their efforts, “Ideas Block” for a one weekend revive in Žiogeliai.
