THE SYSTEM, begins with interest on the foundations by which the linguistic shapes project themselves from the very mental structures and onto the sound patterns themselves. Further finding representation in the physical world.
Loosely inspired by ideas of pictures of meaning, how the language reflects the underlying structures of reality, this artwork tries to explore the extrapolation of those ideas into the nature of sound itself, and its intrinsic relationship with language.
Thinking of words as metaphors, a question arises of where the meaning of their sounds comes from. Is the meaning arbitrary or is it contained in the sound itself, and in turn has the sound properties that carry universal meaning with it? And what about emotions?. What makes a polite, or a loving voice, be such?. Or what does a belligerent voice carry with it?. What about fear?.
If meaning is also inherent in the sound, it is also inherent to the natural patterns in it. More than that, the world of intangible structures, social patterns, emotional interactions within the tribe, if taken as physical reality, must be an actual picture and reflection of the patterns emerging from meaning making in languages and the structures of emotions in our psyche. Structures that may as well be innate, nurtured by nature.
By this token, universal objects, and emotions would find primordial representations in mental and linguistic structures, patterns, rhythms and expressions. Clearly, it is hard to find a definite collective emotion, common across the diverse cultural realities. However, affectionate language, flight or fight, and fear expressions can come close to such universality. Nowadays there is a potential opportunity of sampling a universal fear for a global viral threat (2022), an opportunity to understand how the same meaning/emotion is rendered in different linguistic forms.
THE SYSTEM is a [mostly] sound art installation, consisting of a multichannel sound system playing processed sounds of language in order to extract certain patterns and features of language to accompany these ideas.
What sounds like synthetic voices hints at the patterns of language as a technological material development, harnessed by whichever evolution of the mind and machines is to come. Sculpture elements add further accents on the signification of the concepts.
Appendinx I – Object
A capricious and arbitrary shape, yet following the already given boundaries of the physical reality, limited and made efficient by following and understanding them. Seems to have a purpose, such as the systems we create. A manipulation of natural elements. Such as language.
Appendix II – Tlatolli
The glyph is a representation of language or speech for the ancient Mexica, otherwise known as Aztecs. The word belongs to the Nahuatl language still spoken in parts of central Mexico. In the Aztec social and political order, the language and writing was paramount, and words such as for governors, scribes, or diplomats share a root related to Tlatolli, or speech.

THE SYSTEM prasideda nuo domėjimosi kalbinių struktūrų pagrindais, atsispindinčiais minčių ir garso struktūrose, randančiose savo išraišką fiziniame pasaulyje.
Įkvėptas Ludwig Wittgenstein idėjų apie prasmės vaizdinius, kaip kalba atspindi pamatines tikrovės struktūras, šis meno kūrinys bando ištirti tų idėjų ekstrapoliaciją į paties garso natūrą ir jo prigimtinį ryšį su kalba.
Mąstant apie žodžius kaip metaforas, kyla klausimas iš kur atsiranda jų garsų reikšmė. Ar šis supratimas yra savavališkas, o gal egzistuoja pačiame garse, ir savo ruožtu turi tam tikras garsines savybes, perteikiančias visuotinai suprantamą prasmę? O kaip su emocijomis? Kas padaro mandagų ar mylintį balsą tokiu? Arba ką neša karingas balsas? O kaip su baime?
Jei prasmė yra būdinga garsui, ji taip pat būdinga ir jo natūralioms struktūroms. Negana to, nematerialių struktūrų pasaulis, socialiniai modeliai, emocinės sąveikos gentyje,
jei laikomos fizine realybe, kuria tam tikrą paveikslą – kalbos prasmių ir emocijų struktūrinį atspindį. Galimai, tai įgimtos struktūros, išaugintos gamtos.
Remiantis šiomis idėjomis universalūs objektai ir emocijos rastų pirmapradžius vaizdinius mentalinėse ir kalbinėse struktūrose, modeliuose, ritmuose ir išraiškos formose. Akivaizdu, kad sunku rasti apibrėžtą kolektyvią emociją, būdingą įvairioms kultūrinėms realybėms. Tačiau meilės kalba, kovos ir baimės išraiškos gali priartėti prie tokio universalumo. Šiais laikais egzistuoja potenciali galimybė atrasti visuotinę baimės išraišką pasaulinės virusinės grėsmės akivaizdoje (2022), galimybė suprasti kaip ta pati prasmė ar emocija gali būti perteikiama skirtingomis kalbinėmis formomis.
THE SYSTEM – tai [iš esmės] garso meno instaliacija, susidedanti iš daugiakanalės garso sistemos, grojančios apdorotus kalbos garsus, siekiant išgauti tam tikrus kalbinius modelius ir bruožus, lydinčius šias idėjas.
Tai, kas skamba kaip sintetiniai balsai, sufleruoja apie kalbos, kaip technologinės medžiagos raidą, kuri gali būti panaudota bet kokios būsimos proto ir technologijų evoliucijos. Skulptūriniai elementai dar labiau pabrėžia sąvokų reikšmę.
I priedas – Objektas
Kaprizinga ir savavališka forma, tačiau besilaikanti jau duotų fizinės tikrovės ribų, kurių supratimo ir laikymosi dėka tampa apribota ir efektyvesnė. Atrodo, kad turi tikslą, taip kaip ir mūsų kuriamos sistemos. Natūralių elementų manipuliacija. Tokia kaip ir kalba.
II priedas – Tlatolli
Šis glifas yra senovės Meksikos, tiksliau actekų, atvaizdas reiškiantis kalbą. Šis žodis priklauso nahuatl kalbai, vis dar vartojamai centrinės Meksikos dalyse. Actekų socialinėje ir politinėje santvarkoje kalba ir raštas buvo svarbiausi, o tokie žodžiai kaip gubernatorius, raštininkas ar diplomatas turi bendrą šaknį, susijusią su tlatolli arba kalba.
